AUGUSTIN is a newspaper with a critical view of neoliberal structures and a social project. The street paper appears every fortnight and is primarily sold by socially disadvantaged people on the streets of Vienna. Half of the sales price remains with the seller.AUGUSTIN stands for solidarity with the poor and critical observation of the rich. Our aim is to identify social inequalities, get to the bottom of injustices and promote examples of good practice. A relevant part of our journalistic work consists of reporting on people, places and ideas that make Vienna a really liveable city - for everyone, but especially for the excluded and marginalized. We offer a look behind the curtain and stand for respectful and high-quality research, with which we constantly try to expand the horizons of AUGUSTIN readers. In our politics department (do & let) we focus on wealth and poverty, on real estate transactions and homelessness, on the social system, labor rights and corruption, on climate change and ecologically and socially sustainable projects. In every issue we introduce AUGUSTIN salespeople and employees. In the feature section vorstadt you will find travel reports from places that can be reached by bike and train, alternative sports reports and portraits of local heroes who make Vienna a nicer city for everyone. In the art department (art.ist.in) there is space for literature, theater, performance, music and film reviews, we report on artistic off-spaces and local musicians and work with an alternative approach to what and for whom art is . The literature section (denser interior section) has space for short stories and poems by both professional authors and ambitious beginners. In our program supplement (Strawanzerin), readers are offered cultural tips in the three sections “free / up to 7 euros / from 7 euros”. Since 2018 we have also been offering childrens pages (Augustinchen) in AUGUSTIN.Around 400 salespeople regularly sell the AUGUSTIN. There are no formal requirements (proof of need, language skills, etc.) to become a seller. Salespeople take part in an introductory training course and subscribe to the sales agreements (no reselling the newspaper to other salespeople, no change in sales price, no drug influence during the sale). You will receive an AUGUSTIN sales badge. In June and November each year, sellers receive 30 newspapers for free as the equivalent of the holiday and Christmas bonus. The salespeople determine the intensity and location of their sales activity themselves. During the opening hours of the sales office, the salespeople have the opportunity to socialize and eat, use the telephone & Internet, office supplies and support in life-related issues or information and help with social law (such as repayment debts caused by dodging, etc.), legal advice, attending a D course and participating in one of the projects: choir, theater, table tennis or football.AUGUSTIN also offers the following products for sale in return for a donation: sound carriers from the choir, T-shirts, rucksacks, books with AUGUSTIN texts, an annual wall calendar and a coffee made especially for the project.
